Maggie Cason

My name is Maggie Cason and I'm a sophomore majoring in Cell Biology and Genetics. I love science but outside the classroom I enjoy watching movies and playing the cello (and sleeping). I'm super excited for this trip! I live close to Baltimore so I hope to find an organization over this week that I can volunteer at during summer and/or winter breaks if I want to. Also, Baltimore is my favorite city!

Iyanuoluwa Onibatedo

Hello! My name is Iyanuoluwa. I am a public health science major. I am currently a sophomore. I hoped to graduate and attend medical school with the intentions of building an orphanage for orphans in Africa. I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. I miss it every day and I also intend to help Lagos with my future medical degree. I love Maryland and I am involved in several clubs within the school, like Circle K International, Public Health without Borders, Charles R Drew Medical society to name a few. I am a hug fan of eating, I can eat 6 times a day! I am terribly afraid of cats only because I got scratch by one. I love to help people because I believe a major part of everyone's purpose in life is to help those in need. I am an outgoing person with the ability to persuade people into reaching their full potential.

Katherine Sudbrook

Hi! I am a freshman business major here at the University of Maryland. I love volunteering on campus, especially through the Leadership & Community Service-Learning programs. I have participated in Turtle Camp, TerpService Days, and now I will be participating in my first Alternative Breaks trip to nearby Baltimore. Besides volunteering, I am a voting member on the SGA's Finance Committee. I also enjoy playing pick-up soccer and volleyball games at La Plata beach.

I'm currently a sophomore at UMD, studying Communication and Studio Art, which combine two of my favorite things in life: looking and talking. I'm a member of the AB community because of my other passions, which is furthering the progress of mankind. Seems like a big concept, but I'm excited to be a part of Alternative Breaks because it allows everyone to help where they're needed. Otherwise, you can generally find me in art museums, concert halls, or on the couch watching TV shows (I'm a self-proclaimed media junkie and would love love love to talk to you about it).

My journey with Alternative Breaks began in North Carolina and Philadelphia, where I learned about rural and urban education my first two years of college.  Now I am a junior Elementary  Education major leading the trip to Baltimore for Affordable Housing, and I couldn’t be more excited!  In addition to learning about socioeconomic equity, I enjoy gardening, reading, coaching at Girls on the Run, dancing, watching baseball, and embarking on outdoor adventures.  Right now I commute from my home in Silver Spring, where I live with my amazing parents and three younger brothers.
